There’s headline news, and there’s not really headline news. I mean… there’s yesterday’s big meeting and there’s everything else. But because we’re anal about the details, this is where we keep you informed about stuff that probably doesn’t need a full page all to itself…

Meanwhile…

In Bulgaria, returning broadcaster BNT has announced a national selection to choose its Eurovision 2026 entry, and will invite 15 artists to take part. The show will be broadcast in three stages in January and February 2026. The winner will be selected by a combination of a televote and jury vote.

In Latvia, the 24 songs in the running for a Eurovision place at next year’s Supernova are out and available to preview on YouTube. This year there will be two semi-finals (January 31 and February 7) with the grand final on Valentine’s Day. Ten songs will qualify from the heats with one wildcard (a song that nobody liked much, and therefore stands no chance) added to the line-up. Tickets are on sale here for the shows.

If Lithuania is more your scene, why not nip over to Spotify and listen to the songs in the running for the 2026 national final marathon.

With that ‘big meeting‘ in the rear view, the EBU are ringing around their mates to see if anyone might fancy stepping in now a bunch of broadcasters have said they’ll be washing their hair on the night of Eurovision’s 70th Birthday Party. The latest potential new kid on the block is Kazakhstan – who, let’s be honest, have been champing at the bit for ages. As Khabar Agency (the Kazakh broadcaster) is not a full member of the EBU, they would need (like Australia) an invite to take part. And there are ongoing rumblings about how there isn’t enough money set aside to cover participation. Still, never say never. According to the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, Khabar Agency will hear if they’re in or out ‘early next year’. So technically long after the extended deadline for 2026.
