Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2026 – Part Ten – Czechia

Czechia  – Daniel Zizka – Crossroads.

Imagine, again, dear reader, my annoyance when very early on it was pointed out to me that the Czech song was not this :

An0d I wasn’t even going to cameo in the video to do a passable impression of Sandy Richardson complete with wheelchair AND this wasn’t going to be an homage to Noelle Gordon.

After sitting in a grump for a good hour, I actually turned on the correct video and to my slight surprise I got an angsty twink lying in his bedsit, sadly fully clothed, telling me how sad he is at everything through a very convoluted set of lyrics which, if they were a creative writing project, would be excellent but something tells me that too much thought has been put into this song and whilst Daniel has an exceptional voice, it’s just too much like Wasted Love in many ways vocally to stand out and your casual Eurovision normal will go “Didn’t this just win last year?”  That’s a problem.  To try and win the previous years contest is not a great strategy and especially if you are trying to win it with a signer in Daniel that triggers the “oooh he even sounds the same” vibes with normals.  Daniel is a great singer, this song, though, is not the vehicle for him.

Phil’s Score – 5 Points.
