United Kingdom – Eins, Zwei, Drei – is completely bonkers.
This song feels like the U.K. is showing a middle finger to Eurovision. If in the past the complaints towards the BBC were that Auntie is playing too safe, this is absolutely no safe song or even a middle of the road song. It’s an in-your-face kind of thing. It’s a kind of song you either love or just detest.
I have mixed feelings towards the song. The verses are ok and quite weak but the chorus is just great and the chorus is what makes the song for me. I found myself singing the chorus while it was on, and after listening to the song, that chorus remained in my head. That counting in German in a U.K. song is just brilliant.
2 things to watch out with this song are the live vocals and the staging. I hope he can sing this life and he will need strong vocals for this song, otherwise it will sound flat. There is a sense of controlled chaos in the video and I ask myself how this is going to be staged for TV, because this song is anything but easy to stage.
It can go either way. If all pieces fall in the right places, finger crossed, it might do very well. If any of the pieces will miss the mark, it will be another disappointing result for the U.K.
My marks – 7 points
