Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2026 – Part Fifteen – Georgia

Georgia – On Replay.

There are people in the fandom, stupid people for the record, who think that the Junior version of this contest needs putting in a bin and burning along with Malmo 2024 but here we have a classic example of what can be achieved when that talent is allowed to grow and flourish after being at that junior contest…

No – Not that again.  Bzikebi are for the most part remembered by Eurovision fandom as “those kids in the bee outfits” that middle aged men pointed and laughed at back in 2008 but they have certainly grown up since then and this song showcases all of that talent.   There is an argument to be made that this is one of the few songs in this contest that is actually radio friendly which will certainly be in it’s favour when it comes to seven people in television centres around Europe.

The preview video is very choreography heavy with people in bubble wrap clothing and very weird eye masks and it’s going to be nigh impossible with six people to recreate the artiness of the video, though of course the myriad of LED screens will do it’s best.

Is it relying too much on a cracking video to hide a weak song?  Not so much but the song does that old Eurovision trop of getting a hook into your brain and repeating it seemingly “on replay” (see what I did there) for three minutes.    The verses are a bit on the light side if I am being honest, almost as though they were an afterthought for the songwriters after writing that banging hook.   That does detract a bit from the package being presented but, overall, it isn’t half bad.

Phil’s Score – 6 Points.
