Malta – Bella – AIDEN
Now, not for the first time in the storied history of this website, I’m making this up as I go along, principally because I wonly wrote twenty two of these before hand and though “fuck it”.
Also for not thie first time in the storied etc… I am completely and utterly in complete disagreement with my other two collegues – though that for Shai that’s a new experioence for him!. I don’t like this – I don’t like it one little tiny bit. It feels pretentious for pretentiousness sake. Eurofans will remember Aiden for two things – Ritmu, which is currently playing as I write this, and being disqualified a year later and this does feel a bit like “Oh go on then – YOU can go to the big show”.
I just find the first minute or so of the song to be extremely laconic and I expect the song to, you know, do something, and it doesn’t precisely nothing exciting musically or vocally – apart from drifting into Italian and Maltese. In fact, there is an argument that if THIS went to a Sanremo in any of the last few years it would have done really well. Am i mistaking classsy song writing of a slow emotional song for being boring and predictable. No, in this instance I do not think that I am. If you like it, you’ll really like it – I just dont think enough temevoters will do so. Juries, however, might well end up being all peculiar over this song – though that could be because of his biceps.
Phil’s Score – 3 Points.
