Mr Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2026 – Part Two – Armenia

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Well we what now 2 songs in and already we have our first Eurovision banger of the year this is not what I was expecting from Armenia.  Imagine my shock when I realised this song was not a cross between Una Paloma Blanca and a small tiny machine that cleans your rug! – However about ten seconds into the video I got into this song.

I tend to say that I don’t like silly and uptempo and things like that – but I absolutely do if it’s done properly and Simon is doing this properly.  Subtle touches in the video, with nods to most other Armenian entries are going to be missed by the great unwashed, but they are gonna see a gym fit man giving it some for three minutes singing a song with actual lyrics that make sense  (well it was written by Rosa Linn so she knows what she is doing you’d hope).  This needs to be staged immaculately, though, and I have no doubt it will have the office setting and all the LED screens Armernian Telly can afford.

This has great potential to do very well with the juries and it really is just televoting catnip because I mean, hell, why would you not throw a few votes to the decent uptempo song? It’s not pretending to be cool and clever, it’s just a pure bit of pop and I’m here for it.

Phil’s Score – 10 Points.   I actually wanted to give it 9 points because I couldn’t make my mind up so it got nudged up..
