Australia – Delta Goodrem – Eclipse
Well now, Australia have played their Eurovision Uno Reverse card here and gave the gays – sorry “fans” what they have been screaming for, for at least the last ten years. Delta Goodrem.
Sadly, however, they are not going to present peak years Delta here rather, as tends to be the case nowadays with names, you are getting “someone who has not had a chart hit in forever” Delta, and yes, I’ve checked her discography!
She’s singing a rather beige piece of pop which is ironic considering the preview video is sung in the desert, something which she fades in musically. I was fully expecting something from the Fry’s Turkish Delight advert…
But I just got an average piece of pop that doesn’t do anything special musically. I think I’ve said that if this was in the Melodifestivalen that it would struggle to get out of a semi final. It’s only saving grace is that it has a key change which is signposted for about seven seconds before it even happens, but I’m too bored by the song the time it gets to it for me to be excited by this song. It’ll pick up votes from normals because of name recognition. It’ll get jury points because it’s the sound that they are supposed to like but, in truth, I’ve heard it all before – and so have you if you are honest.
Phil’s Score – 5 Points
