Slovenia has not entered Eurovision 2027, nor has anyone from RTV Slovenija asked the EBU for extra time to decide. And if you know for sure they were lurking at a Eurovision meeting in Montenegro, check your sources. They insist this isn’t true.
Their stay-home reason this time around isn’t Israel, they’re blaming it on money. And even though the deadline to submit an interest in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, they’re still having ‘informal talks’ with the EBU – who, let’s be honest, have never been too sticky on actual deadlines.
Extensions, you say?
Over the past week, reports circulated suggesting Slovenia and Iceland had been given additional time by the EBU to decide whether to take part. According to RTV Slovenija, that isn’t true. The broadcaster says it never asked the EBU for an extension to the deadline and therefore never received one.
The reports appear to have begun with EurovisionFun before being repeated elsewhere, and just like anything online, the reports somehow acquired additional certainty with every retelling. One report even claimed that RTV Slovenija itself had confirmed the extension.
It hadn’t.
Yeah, but no, but yeah…
On 15 September, representatives of broadcasters and Eurovision delegations gathered in Tivat, Montenegro, for the annual EBU Eurovision workshop. Eurovision director Martin Green said 37 countries were represented. From that came reports that Slovenia had attended and, inevitably, suggestions that this might indicate a return to the Contest. RTV Slovenija says no representative of the broadcaster was there.
Neither the EBU nor Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG published a full list of those attending, so the presence of 37 countries couldn’t safely tell us which 37 they were.
And just so you know, there are no plans to stage their long-running national selection show EMA in 2027.
Sometimes “we don’t know yet” really does mean “we don’t know yet”.
