Daughter of the sainted and much revered Fred Dinenage, his daughter Dame Caroline clearly has had a bit of a dusty inbox this summer (Not a Euphemism) because the Culture Media and Sport committee, as part of their keeping up with current events remit and, clearly, having read the presumably one (1) email some disgruntled pearl-clutcher in Kent has written will, according to BBC News, summon BBC execs to explain themselves.
What do people think?
This has, of course, divided opinion on the internet. Those that know nothing welcome the opportunity for scrutiny. Those that are sensible and read this and other sites will realise that the Government literally have zero remit when it comes to matters of light entertainment and music (outside the Palace of Westminster, obviously) and should keep their noses out of the business of a broadcaster.  I guess, though, it’s because of the unique way the BBC is funded AND because there is a charter review coming up and, possibly, because the DCMS Select Committee in parliament is a little bit boring and has nothing to do at the moment, thats why they are so interested.
As Lisa-Jayne Lewis put it so eloquently in the car with me today, it’ll be the wrong people asking the wrong questions and getting the same wrong answers.
It’ll die down soon enough. You don’t have to appear before a select committee if called and you can send your evidence in in writing even if you are so, personally, someone was bored and decided to pick this.
