Germany releases Eight of their songs into the wild – Hear them now!

Germany has announced eight of the nine finalists for its Unser Lied für Liverpool selection, which will take place on Friday, March 3. Barbara Schöneberger will compere again, presumably because she has nowt better to do on a Friday night.

The eight announced acts and songs are:

Will Church is the mandatory long-haired singer guy, presenting the power ballad “Hold on”.

Frieda Gold are a duo, rather than an old woman from Bochum, and are seemingly quite popular. Their song is “Alle Frauen In Mir Sind Müde”.

Patty Gurdy is from Düsseldorf and, as her name suggests, plays the hurdy-gurdy. Why wouldn’t you? Her song is “Melodies of Hope”.

TRONG is already well known in Vietnam, which is presumably going to help in a pan-European song contest. He will sing “Dare to be Different” — narrator: it isn’t.

Lord of the Lost are a band from St Pauli in Hamburg — MILLENTOR etc. — who have been in existence since 2009. They are best described as Punk Lite and will sing “Blood and Glitter”.

René Miller is cut from the Sam Ryder mould of TikTok singers who found fame during lockdown. He will sing his own composition, “Concrete Heart”.

Anica Russo will present “Once upon a dream”.

Finally, and mercifully for us, there is the duo Lonely Spring, with “Misfit” — a song that could have been dropped from Green Day’s back catalogue.

And just when you thought the excitement was over, there is still a ninth song to be announced. TikTok users will be able to vote for that one.

I bet you can’t wait.
