In front of an audience of tens, acts from 18 countries will compete tonight in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. The show starts at 21:00 CEST, with the grand final scheduled for Saturday.
And yes, San Marino is one of those 18 countries — not “San Siegel”, although that remains a perfectly respectable name for the imaginary entry. Represented by Valentina Monetta singing The Social Network Song (Oh Oh – Uh – Oh Oh), San Marino performs 11th in the running order.
The full parade is: Montenegro, Iceland, Greece, Latvia, Albania, Romania, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, Israel, San Marino, Cyprus, Denmark, Russia, Hungary, Austria, Moldova and Ireland. Ten countries will qualify for Saturday’s final.
Spain, Italy and Azerbaijan are voting tonight. UK viewers are not eligible to vote in this semi-final; Britain votes in the second semi-final and the final.

Update, with the benefit of hindsight: San Marino did not qualify, finishing 14th with 31 points. Russia won the semi-final with 152 points, followed by Albania and Romania. So, for once, my highly scientific prediction was not entirely disgraced.
