ONEUROPE: Eurovision Song Contest news
Contests 2014 French fancy

French fancy

Twin Twin

France next, featuring my husband to be Patrick. The main thing you need to know about this is he’s topless on stage. This alone is making my night, if not my Eurovision. It’s only one notch down on the excitement scale after getting tickets to see Kate Bush.

It’s big, bold and fun. The backdrop, as you’d expect, is a riot of colour and features enormous moustaches, at one point in the flags of most nations. There are a couple of additional dancers, which only really serve to switch attention away from Patrick, which is a mistake in my eyes, though I concede I may be blinded by love. Or at least blinded by lust. I wonder what colour curtains we’ll have…?

For me this is just what we need in the Contest, something totally uplifting and completely enjoyable. I love much of what France has sent to the Contest over the years, a lot of which has gone unrewarded for their really interesting and creative efforts. Like Big Jessy, I do feel this could score well with the televoters, and I just hope the juries also see it for the clever and entertaining song that it is. There is a small chance that they might get swallowed by the vastness of the stage, though; a few tweaks to the camera angles could pick up just the right look for TV.
