France- Regarde ! – Is the equivalent on a musical showstopper
Popera is a unique Eurorvision genre. Every year you have at least one song on a Eurovision stage in this genre. The last 2 years saw winners employing this genre. However in other years the results of this genre are quite mix.
The success of this genre in the last 2 years, didn’t escape France notice and there should be no wonder that France , hungry for a win, has chosen this genre for 2026. They have tried everything else, so why not try this genre(although, they have tried this genre themselves in 2011 and failed). To the Popera genre, the writers of the song threw the musical genre, which here sounds like an American musical sung in French.
Is it good?, yes sort of. Is it French? yes, sort of. Does it work? yes, quite well even. Is it catchy? Yes, sort of. At least the chorus remains in your head. It is very sugary, to the level you might get sick from it.
If this was part of a musical, this would be a showstopper, where the audience will applaud the song at the end of the number. I admit to being a sucker for a good musical showstopper. It has the ingredients to do well and I won’t be surprised if the staging and the visuals will include some view of Paris, which will be quite a cliche.
