It’s often debated which song contest is the best one ever. The one that took place in Göteborg/Gothenburg in 1985 will rank there among the best. It had some great songs, some tight voting, and Lys Assia.

Representing France – that powerhouse of Eurovisiondom, was today’s birthday boy Roger Bens. He’d tried to represent France as part of a duo in 1984 but obviously didn’t get the gig. His performance came within a lean patch for France – between a third place in 1981 and runner-up in 1990. Maybe it was too French.

Roger is 68 today.

Bonne anniversaire, Roger!
