Contests 2013 Montenegro is mad mad mad

Montenegro is mad mad mad

And yet, qualifying at the same time. Montenegro’s 2013 Eurovision entry, “Igranka” (“The Party”), is performed by hip-hop duo Who See, with additional vocals from Nina Žižić. I am told that they are dropping their dubstep beats (no, I don’t know what it means either), but it’s the musical equivalent of Revels.

It’s all manner of things covered in choclit: energetic hip-hop, dubstep and a prominent female vocal chorus. You might not like the taste of some of them, but you know you are satisfied. The performance is every bit as deliberately unusual, with Who See appearing in astronaut costumes.

This will have enough fan hate to be mainstream and enough votes to get through. That was my prediction, anyway. In reality, Montenegro finished 12th out of 16 in the first semi-final in Malmö on 14 May 2013, scoring 41 points and missing the final. Serbia qualified in 11th place with 46 points, so it was a particularly close failure on the scoreboard.
