Melanie René is singing a cracking little song for Switzerland, but it passes me by. Like a fair few entries in this contest, it simply doesn’t hold my interest—and if it doesn’t engage me, I can’t see it motivating televoters to pick up the phone and vote.
The juries should mark it decently because, on its own terms, it is that cracking song. But being competent is not quite enough here: it needs to make people care, and I’m not sure it does.
Melanie doesn’t need to be so fierce with this one. She could tone it down and still have a decent chance, but at the moment she is over-egging the pudding. Calm down, love.
