So we’re properly off with the national-final shenanigans for Eurovision (actual) 2026, and Malta has delivered its first contribution: a late-night semi-final.
I have to admit that I was recording a radio show, so I only caught the end of it. Even so, all the prerequisites for a normal Maltese competition appeared to be in place: Rocs Travel, Crosscraft and Ta’Qali.
Of the 18 entries announced for the semi-final—and believe me, there were a lot of things that words cannot do justice to on a site like this one—12 have made it through to the national final.
Here are the successful entries:
| Song | Performer(s) |
|---|---|
| Univers | Janice Mangion |
| Let a Girl Breathe | Kelsie Borg |
| Ejja lejja ħdejja ‘l hawn (The Flute) | Matt Blxck |
| Trophy | Denise |
| Ganador | Nathan Psaila |
| Achikuku (Don’t Think About It) | Ema |
| Guide You Home | Franklin Calleja |
| My Sweet Angel | Mychael Bartolo Chircop |
| Mumenti sbieħ | Mark Anthony Bartolo |
| Bella | Aidan |
| Brutality Mentality | Matthew Cilia (and The AfterParty) |
| Nerġà nqum | Adria Twins |
The final takes place at Ta’Qali on Saturday 17 January at 20:45 CET. On past form, it could run well into the early hours of Sunday morning, so get the snacks ready, people.
