Ukraine debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and quickly became one of the competition’s powerhouses, winning three times and never failing to qualify for the final. Its first victory came in 2004 with Ruslana’s high-energy Wild Dances, which showcased Ukrainian folklore with a modern twist. Jamala’s haunting 1944 won in 2016, telling a powerful story of historical tragedy and resilience, while Kalush Orchestra’s Stefania clinched victory in 2022 with a mix of rap, folk, and a tribute to Ukrainian mothers amid the ongoing war.

Known for its bold staging and a mix of traditional and contemporary elements, Ukraine has often blended national identity with innovative performances. The national selection, Vidbir, is a popular and competitive process that highlights Ukraine’s diverse music scene.

Despite geopolitical challenges, Ukraine’s entries often resonate with both juries and televoters for their emotional impact and cultural authenticity, making it one of Eurovision’s most consistently successful participants.
