Well, it might not be that breaking but it is important.
Leonor Andrade had to perform again last night after all of the songs and the show had been completed. To be precise, this was the jury dress rehearsal for Eurovision 2015’s second semi-final in Vienna, on Wednesday 20 May—the evening before the televised semi-final.
Eurovision’s press tweeted:
“Due to sound issues, Portugal gets fair second chance to perform after jury dress rehearsal. Juries remain stand-by to watch it!”
The problem was reported as an issue with the audio mixing desk. The version heard by the jurors during Portugal’s first performance did not include the vocal effects needed for the song to sound as intended. After all the scheduled songs had been performed, Leonor and her backing vocalists were allowed to repeat Há um Mar que nos Separa, written by Miguel Gameiro.
This was not a second attempt during the public live broadcast. The juries were kept on standby to watch the repeat, and that version was the one used for their evaluation. We can confirm that they re-sang their song at 23.00 CET, as reported at the time.
This may or may not have made a difference to their result. Retrospectively, we know that it did not get Portugal through: performing seventh in the televised semi-final, Leonor finished 14th of 17 entries with 19 points, outside the top ten qualifying places. But the official result cannot tell us whether the sound problem affected the score, so the original uncertainty remains.
