Malta pick their entry, but was it forgone?

Malta's Aiden
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you thought the Moldovan National final was long on the first Saturday of the season, you’re not a true Eurovision fan! Malta started late (as in 30 minutes after schedule) and finished even later (half past one CET is ridiculous!).

For those of you who aren’t me, or have an actual life and missed what went on, the full results are shown below, but they do not tell the full story.

The jury, almost to a man and woman (including personal friend of mine, Russell Davies), decided that Aiden would finally get his turn and go to the contest. If you remember back in 2023, he was the odds-on favourite to win, until he got disqualified for opening his mouth on “da socials” – none of that this year though.

The public had different ideas and wanted Matt Blxck to win the contest with The Flute, a very energetic and mystical song, which got them going in the hall and about 34 per cent of the vote, but there were enough votes left at the end to get Aiden over the line.

Here’s that performance from Ta’Qali in the middle of the night

And remember – he beat this :

Was it right?? – Who knows, it was literally a toss of a coin, exactly how a National Final should be.   Though at nearly five hours, it’s far far too long for 12 songs PBS!
