The Lithuanians are so not the winners – but are possibly through to the qualifying. LT United’s “We Are the Winners” is repetitive toss (though where have we said this before?), built around the rather confident claim that Lithuania has already won Eurovision.
It is going to get the Moldovan granny vote – but I can’t see where else it’s going to get points from. Moldova’s “Loca”, performed by Arsenium and Natalia Gordienko, may help, but this should not qualify – though it well might.
Update: It did. Performing 18th in the Athens semi-final on 18 May 2006, LT United finished fifth with 163 points and qualified comfortably. In the final, the apparent joke went even further: Lithuania finished sixth with 162 points, at the time its best Eurovision result. Moldova awarded it four points; the biggest scores came from Ireland, with 12, and Iceland, the United Kingdom and Latvia, with 10 each.
