Donny Montell will represent Lithuania in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the song Love Is Blind.
That was the news on 16 March 2012, after Lithuania’s national selection had chosen the singer—whose real name is Donatas Montvydas—for the contest. Organised by LRT, the multi-week selection began on 4 February and concluded with a live final in Vilnius on 3 March. Fourteen acts competed in that final, with Donny Montell’s song winning the superfinal after the top three had been selected through jury and public voting. Love Is Blind was written by Brandon Stone and Jodie Rose.
At this point, of course, Baku was still ahead and the result was anybody’s guess. Retrospectively, Lithuania competed in the second semi-final on 24 May, qualified in third place with 104 points, and performed fourth in the grand final at Baku Crystal Hall on 26 May. Donny Montell finished 14th with 70 points. Sweden’s Loreen won the contest with Euphoria.
