Denmark has chosen its act for Vienna as Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 wrapped up a slick, modern final in a sold‑out Arena Nord in Frederikshavn on 14 February.
Setting the scene in Frederikshavn
For the second year running, DR took DMGP on the road, this time to Arena Nord in Frederikshavn, which was packed with fans from across Denmark and beyond. The broadcaster had trailed a fresh visual identity for 2026, and the show opened with a neon-soaked intro package that leaned into the “fresh and modern” direction promised at OGAE Denmark’s autumn meeting.
Hosts Sara Bro and actor Alex Høgh Andersen steered the two-hour broadcast with an easy mix of humour and Eurovision geekery. From the outset they underlined DMGP’s role in finding a competitive entry for Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, where the contest will take place under the theme “Europe, shall we dance?”.
Songs and performers
The eight‑song line‑up brought together returning names and newcomers, all aiming for Denmark’s ticket to Vienna. The final running order was designed to keep energy levels high, alternating darker, more atmospheric entries like “Copenhagen Noir” with brighter pop moments such as “Can U Feel It” and “Roaring Heart”.
Format and voting
DR stuck with the eight‑song final and two‑round voting system that it has used in recent years. All eight acts performed in the first round, with a 50/50 combination of jury and televote determining the three superfinalists.
In the superfinal, the scores were reset and another combined jury–televote decided the winner of the evening and Denmark’s entry for the Wiener Stadthalle in May. As in 2025, the emphasis was on complete packages – artist, song and staging developed together with Eurovision in mind and those results are shown in the table below!
| Song | Performer | First Round | Second Round | Psn |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Two Spirits | Sander Sanchez | |||

And I haven’t stopped laughing that Sissel came third!!
The live show and interval
On the night, the production delivered the “modern and innovative” look DR promised, with LED-heavy stagings and smart camera work giving several performances a ready‑made Eurovision feel. Crowd reactions suggested that a handful of songs had already broken through domestically, with sing‑along choruses and phone lights in the arena adding to the atmosphere.
Between the two voting rounds, Keld and Hilda Heick were rightly honoured by a This is your life section with some arsing about on stage and lots of songs and A LOT of the audience standing up throughout.
