Russia…. This, Children, is dangerous

This article forms part of the OnEurope archive and was originally published on oneurope.co.uk. It has been permanently migrated to oneurope.net, the official home of OnEurope.

Russia’s Polina Gagarina performs this Eurovision 2015 entry to within an inch of its life. It’s cleansed of all emotion apart from the story that Russian TV wants it to sell: peace, love and harmony. Couple that with a massive voice and a decent song and you have…

DANGER

This will get the boo-boys going because of the country name, but something you can’t deny is that Polina will give this 110%. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the politics running throughout the song, she is delivering it honestly and, as a performer, you can’t deny that. Her choice of dress is good, her backing group will be clapping along towards the climax of the song, and she knows where her points are coming from. She is totally professional, and it climaxes with the world in the background.

This, make no mistake, is a great song sung by a very good and accomplished performer. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It’s going to score big points.

Be afraid, Europe.
