Eurovision Song Contest 2027
Contests 2015 Israel… yeah and yet no

Israel… yeah and yet no

Israel’s 2015 Eurovision entry was “Golden Boy”, performed by Nadav Guedj and written by Doron Medalie. Guedj had won the second season of the Israeli television competition HaKokhav HaBa (“The Next Star”), while the song was chosen internally and presented on 12 March 2015. It is an English-language, uptempo pop/Mizrahi dance track — a distinctly Mediterranean change of pace in a contest with plenty of slower songs.

It’s all uptempo and bouncy and in your face in a club singer stylee, but he also has that boyish enthusiasm that is sadly infectious when it comes to this kind of thing.

It is one of the few uptempo songs in this contest and after the 8 that have come before them, this is a massive gear change when it comes to listening to them in draw order. Israel is performing ninth in the second semi-final, so it will make you go “wow” when Europe hear it but will they also go ” oh my god, it’s golden shoes” that may take the focus away.

Despite my personal loathing of this song ( I think it’s a badly written piece of pap), I can see it qualifying, but I don’t like Nadav and his stoop though, they must have low ceilings in Tel Aviv….

At the time of writing, that qualification was still only a prediction. In retrospect, it turned out to be a good one: Israel qualified from the second semi-final in third place with 151 points. “Golden Boy” then performed third in the grand final and finished ninth out of 27 entries with 97 points.
