27 November – A sweet memory from a world of laughter

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Were you around for contests in the 20th Century? Did you have a favourite? Was it, by chance, 1995? You know, one of those many many contests in Dublin’s fair city?

Our friends in Malta débuted in Dublin and only missed one contest there. In 1995, it was the turn of today’s birthday boy Mike Spiteri. He was, to quote one commentator, a bullet-headed beauty. As we know, the English speaking world is made up of many many accents. The one from the Med’s happiest rock is a curious one, and his line about memory did sound like something else. It must have awoken some jurors in south-east Europe, as he got two maxima from there. Perhaps the name Spiteri is a name Malta should use again.

Mike is 70 today.

It-Tajjeb/Happy birthday, Mike!
