France Télévisions has confirmed that France will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, due to be held in Vienna next May.

The broadcaster made the announcement on its official channels this week, putting an end to speculation and making clear that France’s involvement is not tied to ongoing political debates about Israel’s place in the competition.

“France Télévisions is pleased to confirm its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. We reaffirm our support for musical creation, to artists and for this unique event,” the statement read.

France has relied on internal selection since 2023 and has not yet said whether it will repeat that method or consider another approach for 2026.

The confirmation comes at a time when some broadcasters, including Spain’s RTVE, have voted to withdraw if Israel is permitted to take part. Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia have also signalled conditional withdrawals. By contrast, France has chosen to underline its commitment to the contest regardless of how those disputes are resolved.

Eurovision 2026 takes place on 12, 14 and 16 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna. France, as one of the “Big Five” countries, will be guaranteed a place in the grand final.
