Random time again, and I’ve gone back to 2017. It was a year when there were some surprise non-qualifiers.
You might not think that today’s song was a surprise. You might have thought it was the opposite of thigh-slapping Schlager and therefore no good. You might have thought that it was not what the contest wanted. You might have thought that Nordic angst is a thing to avoid. On the other hand, this random song from Norma John was so endearing, you might have wondered what the juries missed in almost ignoring it. Whatever you think, it was definitely a surprise on 9 May.
