Countries A-M Finland 19 December – You are history to me

19 December – You are history to me

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There have been many occasions when a Eurovision act has been a family affair. Maybe some people only trust parents/partners/siblings/children to help them out, thinking anyone non-related is out to get them.

Obviously, there are very successful collaborations where the parties aren’t related. But family acts can be something to treasure. In 1994, our friends in Finland sent the duo CatCat to Dublin. The elder sister was today’s birthday girl Virpi Kätkä, doing her stuff with the three-years younger Katja. It was, and still is, a fan favourite. Perhaps because it’s Finland, upbeat, and extremely catchy. So what could go wrong? Well, the 21 countries that finished above CatCat for starters. Five of which were debutantes in a Saturday night show. There was also relegation for the first time, meaning the bottom seven had to sit out 1995. Bye bye Finland? They were robbed.

Virpi is 56 today.

Hyvää syntymäpäivää, Virpi!
