Do you ever see a performer and think “they have class”? That performer who doesn’t need to try. They have a stage presence, and have the audience in the palm of their hand. They may not win, but they are definitely respected.
Today’s birthday girl Katri Helena Kalaoja (formerly Koistinen) did her stuff for Finland twice. The results didn’t quite go her way, but you could tell she had star quality. No problems trusting her with a song, as she would nail it every time. Perhaps it was the Finnish language that may have turned the juries off, as it was never that successful, only managing a seventh at best until 2023. Anyway, we’ve picked Katri Helena’s best performance. She had travelled probably as far as a Finnish performer had ever travelled at the time, and she looked immaculate. If you want class, look no further.
Katri Helena is 80 today.
