Estonia’s up now, and this is a rehearsal report. Tanja’s first run-through started quite wobbly vocally in the lower register, but she soon hit her stride.
This looks very good indeed on screen. I still think that Tanja’s choreography is a bit trompe l’oeil, in that she’s not quite dancing as energetically as she makes it look. That means the impact on her vocals isn’t as great as it might be: it’s a clever effect, because she appears to be being thrown around with considerably more rigour than she actually is.
When the vocal shifts from the verse to the chorus, though, there’s a very different quality to the lead. I do suspect that, for the more melodic bits, Tanja is being rather enhanced from stage left. That’s only a suspicion based on the change I’m hearing, rather than anything I can establish from this run-through.
She also had a technical issue near the end, when her radio mic fell off mid-manoeuvre. That could fill anyone with panic for the night.
It’s good though. For me it’s a safe qualifier.
