I couldn’t let the month pass without an Estonian birthday. You must know how I love to celebrate this music.
Today’s birthday girl sometimes passes us by when compiling lists of the best from Estonia. But Birgit Sarrap (née Õigemeel) was the last performer to sing in Estonian, or ‘eesti keelt’ as we say in these parts. She cut a pretty figure and you could only just spot her baby bump underneath a dress you’d normally see on a Balkan girl belting out some Joksimović composition. If you’re watching ERR, get her back for another go.
Birgit is 30 today.
