(This year we’ve asked Shai, often commentator on this very website, to provide their voice – and so, we present…..  this!)

Albania – Nân – Is the dramatic drama?

Albania goes the familiar route of ethnic drama, which they kept in Albanian. The song is about the feeling you have when you have lost your mother and still miss her. This could have been an emotional song.Unfortunately the song itself leaves the emotional side outside and goes for a more dramatic effect and then it just loses me. The song plays on one tone and has one variation throughout the whole song, except for the last 20 seconds, where it takes a quieter and more intimate route. It actually starts quite promising in a way that it draws you in. But then it changes gear to a monotone number which doesn’t change. Alis has a good voice and can hold a tune but his voice lacks the variation to keep my interest through the whole song.
