The Favourites

Bookmakers currently have Finland as heavy favourites at 37% probability of winning, with Greece and Australia (Delta Goodrem) joint second at around 11% each. The UK’s Look Mum No Computer are sitting 21st in the betting.

The Boycott & Protests

The big ongoing story of the week remains the five-country boycott – Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Iceland and Slovenia are all absent, meaning we get the lowest participating country count since 2003. Ireland’s RTÉ is famously airing an episode of Father Ted instead. A pro-Palestine march of around 3,000 people is expected in Vienna tomorrow on the day of the Final. During Semi-Final 1, protesters inside the Wiener Stadthalle were escorted out after disrupting Israel’s performance. But you know all that.

Israel Warning

The EBU issued a formal warning to Israeli broadcaster KAN after they posted promotional videos instructing viewers to “vote 10 times for Israel,” which was removed after being flagged as against contest rules. The posts were removed at once and blamed on someone not truly understanding the rules – and to be fair, I work in marketing and singing tenth in the running order would have prompted me to post a ‘vote ten time for song ten’ sort of thing too, so I sort of get it. Rules, though, are very much rules.

Enjoy the big night!
