So, when the Lovely Gemma from the BBC comes along and asks you to be on BBC with Scott Mills… do you say…
a) No Thanks
b) No… but panic not, I know people that love being on the Television…
So unaccustomed as I am to being on the TV, I fetched Jody and Monty, fresh from a podcast appearance with Ewan for Eurovision Insight, and they were whisked away, with me telling them very little, to do Television work coming to an interval near you soon, no doubt.
For anyone arriving here from outside the immediate Eurovision bubble: this was in the run-up to the 2015 contest in Vienna, when Scott Mills was part of the BBC’s Eurovision coverage. “Eurovision Insight” appears to have been the ESC Insight podcast, associated with Ewan Spence and his team. The Jody and Monty in question were probably Jody West and Monty Moncrieff, Eurovision community contributors connected with the Second Cherry project — not, to be clear, contestants or BBC presenters.
At the time, I didn’t know the exact programme or broadcast slot, and that remains the bit of this story I can’t pin down. But the plan was for a BBC Eurovision insert or feature, recorded before the semi-finals on 19 and 21 May and the grand final on 23 May 2015.
Watch them and remember… that could have been me!
