We popped into the arena to see Conchita, her vocal needed to be heard live. She’s in a glorious golden gown that required a bit of setting up. The camera is a long shot only revealing her face 45 seconds in and this really builds the interest early on. I’m a bit biased on this, probably; I love the message Conchita was created to convey, and I love the way she conveys it, with dignity and grace.
I had my first real moment watching the first run through a lump in my throat and a tear welling. The momentum seems to be swelling around this, and I think I’ve reached the point where I’ve seldom wanted anything to win Eurovision more than this, as much as a middle-finger fuck you to everyone who has spewed bile about her appearance and character. Ironically that just wouldn’t be Conchita’s style; she, and this song, are just way too classy for that.
I don’t know how this will fare on the night, to be honest, but it is incredibly well staged and delivered. We’ll see what transpires but I’m keeping a lot of things crossed.
