Second semi-final predictions

Prediction

This article forms part of the OnEurope archive and was originally published on oneurope.co.uk. It has been permanently migrated to oneurope.net, the official home of OnEurope.

OK, here we go. Very tricky to call this one. After getting nine last time, I don’t think I’ll be as lucky this time.

But here they are (in draw order):

Serbia
Netherlands, The
Malta
Ukraine
Slovenia
Sweden
Georgia
Turkey
Estonia   😉
Lithuania

There’s one country I’d love to put in there, but I don’t think Europe will get it. I might tell you later on what it is.

What happened next

At the time of publication, on 24 May 2012, this was still a prediction for that evening’s second semi-final in Baku. Eighteen countries competed, with the ten highest-scoring entries qualifying for the final.

Riigi got seven of his ten qualifiers right: Serbia, Malta, Ukraine, Sweden, Turkey, Estonia and Lithuania. Sweden won the semi-final with Loreen’s “Euphoria”, while Serbia finished second. The three predictions that missed out were Georgia, the Netherlands and Slovenia.

The three qualifiers not included in this list were FYR Macedonia, Norway and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The “one country” Riigi hinted at wanting to include was never identified in the original post, so we’ll leave that particular tease unresolved.

With hindsight, Sweden went on to win Eurovision 2012 overall; Serbia finished third and Estonia sixth.
