I have to admit that I wasn’t too taken with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entry at first. Having now seen it performed, though, I’ve had something of a Road to Damascus moment.
Maya is once again following the KISS principle — keep it simple, stupid — and you can’t get much simpler than a blonde at the ol’ joanna singing a Balkan ballad. The only thing missing from the preview video was the familiar collection of girders, but RTVBiH has thought of that and stuck them in the background. Yay!!!
More importantly, it is very well performed. Surprisingly so, to be honest, and that is the key to its chances: it is simply well performed. Niceness.
Nice rarely wins the Eurovision Song Contest, but nice often qualifies. Bosnia and Herzegovina should do so on merit alone, rather than because of its friends.
My only concern is that it could get lost among the other entries in this semi-final because it is a little bit “light”. But it should overcome that. I have changed my mind: this is nice.
