We have to admit that when Europe expanded in the 1990s and 2000s, it was a breath of fresh air. Instead of dancing penguins and Schlager, we got strange new styles like nose flutes and big orange frocks. But our friends in Moldova went one better, and Zdob și Zdub brought their own granny in a rocking chair. Lead singer Roman Iagupov stripped to the waist and sang about her. I’m not sure whether she really approved. Roman is 41 today.
