Today, it’s time for some interesting facts. Our performer here tried several times before she got the lucky golden ticket. As sometimes happens, these perennial triers often qualify with a song that wasn’t their best. Not only that, this song was also the end of an era.
That era was the single Eurovision show. The following year we saw our first semi-final, and the contest was never the same again. Birthday girl Karmen Stavec has this dubious honour of being the last performer to sing in a year unsullied of semi-finals. It was a song she’d co-composed, but arguably her song from EMA 2002 was better. Still, she’s earned her place in ESC history.
Karmen is 44 today.
