ONEUROPE: Eurovision Song Contest news
Non-Active Türkiye 8 January – I was stirred, I was paralysed

8 January – I was stirred, I was paralysed

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you’re a student of Eurovision, you’ll know that no-one really wants to perform second in the Grand Final. Yes, you get more time in the Green Room bar than the singers on 17th, but you’re less likely to win.

Still, maybe one day someone will break this hoodoo. In 1993, today’s birthday boy Burak Aydos, along with a few pals, were given that dubious honour of being second on. They’d made the very long schlep from Türkiye/Turkey, and were at the contest about as far west as you can get without getting your feet wet. Burak and co did score a smattering of points from all over Europe, but a bit of feedback in their performance early on can’t have helped. But watch the video and doo-wap away.

Burak is 54 today.

Burak’ın doğum günü kutlu olsun!!
