Eurovision Song Contest 2025 has an official mascot. Its name is Lumo. Yes, really: Lumo is an actual thing, there is merchandise, and the creature will be roaming Basel in May.
The design came from Lynn Brunner, a student at the Basel Academy of Art and Design (FHNW). Brunner’s idea won a competition that invited 1,100 students from the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW and the Basel School of Design to submit creative proposals. Lumo has since been brought to life and is due to walk the streets of Basel, greeting visitors to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
It is not an M&M working undercover at KFC. Shut up.
Reception
Eurovision fandom has not exactly united in joyous mascot appreciation. The reaction so far is probably best described as mixed.
The Guardian called Lumo ‘The love child of Mick Hucknall and Crazy Frog’ and wondered whether Eurovision’s latest official character might be the worst mascot ever.
BlueSky was no kinder. Among the reactions were ‘I want to kill him with a rock’ and: ‘When I say that artists like Tommy Cash and Joost can say/sing all the shit they want about #Eurovision, cause nobody destroys it and its image more than the incompetent pricks in charge.’
So this may not have been the big hoorah the Gnomes of Geneva were hoping for.
The runners-up
Still, every mascot competition leaves behind the designs that did not quite make it to the party. Here, then, is a look at what you could have won instead.
