Franko meets the Eurovision 2010 stars

Work delayed the start of this year’s Eurovision gig, but the wait is over. Here are my first impressions of the 2010 performers—before I’m similarly hampered in Oslo.

Ireland

The years haven’t been kind to either Niamh or me, but at least I won’t have to stand on stage in front of 150 million people and sing a dreary ballad. This is also one of the few occasions on which I’ve been able to see the advantage of not having hair.

Niamh is great fun and I genuinely wish her well. She gave a great performance and produced the line of the night: “I broke all of your hearts 17 years ago. Well, I’m glad!”

Romania

OnEurope doesn’t seem to like Romania, since it refused to upload their photo. I understand how it feels.

This song is in serious trouble, and it will take more than a gimmicky piano to help it. Something like chemistry between the singers—or a decent song—might be a start.

Josh

Josh is already being roped off at this early stage, which suggests that the BBC fears for his safety. I’m not sure Josh himself has yet realised that he’s going to be spending a lot of time in rooms where he’ll receive more male attention than female.

Oh, the innocent naivety. I’d like to say TSGTM will romp home. I’d like to.
