Australia’s long-standing tradition of sending technically competent, highly polished pop entries appears to have taken the year off in favour of… this. Milkshake Man is what happens when you take a pun and stretch it beyond breaking point.

The song is fun, but not in a knowing or subversive way—more in the way a children’s party clown might be considered ‘fun’, if you found yourself trapped in a lift with them for anything longer than six seconds.

There are gestures toward cheeky innuendo, but they’re delivered with the finesse of someone who once overheard the word “saucy” on daytime telly and never looked back.

You could argue it’s an attempt at novelty, but even that would be generous.
