Romania – Choke Me – is the controversial one.
The first thing that came up in my mind, when listening to the song, was that her diction is horrible. When she sings the “choke me” lines it sounds like she is singing “show me”and not “choke me”(and if you put the subtitles on during the video play, you will see that Google also thinks she is singing “show me”).
She claims that this is a song coming out of a tough period, but the song text suggests she actually likes to be dominated by her man. In a world where femicide is a problem, the song seems to actually encourage a male dominance over a woman. Not a message you wish young women to hear.
It’s completely off putting text. Add music which sounds like noise to me and I am completely not getting the song, not liking the vibe it transmit.I also think her voice is raspy and unpleasant to listen to.
