Portugal- Rosa – Is the calm before and after the storm
The 2026’s Festival da Canção was a strange affair. 13(I think) of the 16 competing acts announced, prior to the competition, that they will not travel to Eurovision should they win.
In the end, one of the acts, which said they will travel to Vienna anyway, has won the whole damn thing. RTP was, no doubt, relieved when the results came in.
It’s the 2nd song this year where the title is a name of a person and it’s very Portuguese no doubt about that, but is this the sleeping pill some people out there think it is? Or is this toilet break in the running order? Squeezed between 2 very energetic entries(Greece and Georgia) it might fall into both categories.
It’s a song as opposed to an exercise in song writing, which some of this year’s songs are.I just love the quietness and calmness it brings. Love their harmonies, which complement and complete each other very well. To sing in such harmonies requires you to listen to each other and make sure you don’t overshadow the other persons in the group. I admit that it is not instant enough to grab your attention, and in this contest, this is a bad thing. I do hope that it will manage to shine and grab the audience’s attention, because it just deserves recognition.
The juries may push this one to the final,not sure if the televoters will even know how to appreciate this. If this reaches the final I will be very happy. If not, it still remains a gem , shining like a bright star in the middle of darkness.
