Phil’s Eurovision Countdown – Part Twenty – Latvia

Lativa – Atvara – Ena

This is one of those songs that I really don’t get.   I don’t like the trick from  Goodbye to Yesterday in the first 30 seconds making me hope it’s going to be like that but then I get angry at it for  letting me down so much.   I just find this song from Latvia boring but that is not to say that it is not musically competent, because it is.  I just think that it takes so long to get going that, to me, the first two minutes are the same monotonous droning on  which Atvara makes slightly different by playing with the visual effects and then in the last minute she repeats the doase only screaming some high notes at the camera.

I don’t know who is going to actually vote for a song which has nothing exciting about it and is,  essentially, a moan set to music for three minutes.  Those juries might find it worthy of a few, but no sane televoter will look at it in it’s semi final and actively pick the phone up and vote for it, unless you are actually a Latvian not in Latvia, and even the blind faithful are going to struggle.    I fear this could end up with an accidental nil points.

Phil’s Score – 1 point, because of the visuals.
